Susan Lerner is a Florida Master Gardener, the Immediate Past President of the Palm Beach Chapter of the Rare Fruit Council International, Vice President of the Palm Beach Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society and a backyard beekeeper. Her half-acre West Palm Beach yard is planted with over 2 dozen fruit trees, hundreds of Florida native plants and other edibles – enough to keep her, the bees, birds & butterflies, fed year-round. Susan with her bees and garden were featured in an video. Her yard is one of the handful that will be featured in the 2015 Mounts Botanical Garden annual Connoisseurs Garden Tour on Mother's Day weekend.

Florida Backyard Beekeepers Association is a non-profit 501c3 organization dedicated to the protection and preservation of honey bees and their keepers.  Our emphasis is educating the novice beekeeper, and on advancing the experienced beekeeper in new concepts and practice.  We provide a forum by which skilled beekeepers can pass their knowledge and wisdom to the next generation.

In 2008, Al’s journey with bees began when his neighbor had a “problem” with bees. Not wanting to exterminate these bees, they worked together to carefully remove and re-locate the colony. In 2009, Al realized that the plight of the honeybee is an important lesson for mankind and began to set up his own non-profit honeybee educational program, Bee Understanding. It is through this program that Al is able to visit schools, clubs, and associations, teaching through speaking engagements and presentations to both young and old. Al started Bee Understanding's “Beekeepers Paying It Forward” program, where he has donated over 700 honeybee hives to beginning backyard beekeepers.  Al was Vice President in 2012 and President in 2013 and 2014 of the Palm Beach County Beekeepers Association.  Al continues to educate people and rescue hives from unwanted locations, and is looking forward to having an impact on the beekeeping industry on a local, state, and national level through education, legislation and innovation.
